چکیده

To the Editor We greatly enjoyed reading the recently published article by Kim et al. (1). The authors found that the serum D-dimer levels were significantly associated with left atrial enlargement in anticoagulation-naïve patients with acute ischemic stroke and non-valvular atrial fibrillation. A number of studies have indicated the role of D-dimer in the stroke diagnosis, progression, and mortality (2, 3). Plasma D-dimer levels, due to their good correlation with the prognosis of acute stroke according to previous studies and their early and easy availability, have been shown to be a good candidate biomarker for the prognosis of acute stroke (2, 3). Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is also frequently elevated after an acute stroke and has been shown to be an independent predictor of mortality and a biological marker for distinguishing cardioembolic stroke from other stroke subtypes (4). Tamura et al. suggested that elevated plasma BNP concentrations may be a reliable surrogate marker for the prediction of left atrial appendage dysfunction and cardiogenic stroke in patients with acute ischemic stroke (5). Rost et al. also showed that elevated BNP was associated with a lower ejection fraction and left atrial dilatation in patients with acute ischemic stroke (6). We would therefore be grateful if the authors would provide the data for BNP levels on admission and their relationship with the serum D-dimer levels in patients with acute ischemic stroke. The authors state that they have no Conflict of Interest (COI).

Relation Between Left Atrial Enlargement and Stroke Subtypes in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients

OBJECTIVE Increased atrial size is frequently seen in ischemic stroke patients in clinical practice. There is controversy about whether left atrial enlargement (LAE) should be regarded as a risk factor for cerebral infarction. We investigated the association between indexed left atrial volume (LAVI) and conventional stroke risk factors as well as stroke subtypes in acute ischemic stroke patient...

The Prevalence of Prescription of New Anticoagulant Drugs and Its Determinant Factors in Patients With Ischemic Stroke and Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation

Background: Patients with ischemic stroke and underlying Atrial Fibrillation (AF) have a high risk of recurrent embolic events. New Oral Anticoagulant (NOAC) is highly effective and reduces the risk of recurrence in AF-associated Ischemic Stroke (AFAIS). Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prescription pattern of NOAC and its determinant factors in patients with non-valvular AFAIS. ...

Left Atrial Size and Long‐Term Risk of Recurrent Stroke After Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation

BACKGROUND Among patients with ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation, which ones are at high risk of recurrent stroke is unclear. This study aimed to determine whether left atrial size was associated with long-term risk of stroke recurrence in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. METHODS AND RESULTS In this multicenter prospective cohort study, nonvalvular atrial fibrillation pati...

dysphagia in acute ischemic stroke

Introduction: Swallowing dysfunction complicates acute strokes in 25-32% of cases and directly affects patientschr('39') prognosis and recovery. Dysphagia complicates the course of acute strokes through its potential of the development of chest infection, nutritional problems, and dehydration.  Dysphagia is also an independent predictor of respiratory morbidity and mortality in acute stroke. In...

The Relation between GABA and L-Arginine Levels with some Stroke Risk Factors in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients

Changes in extra and intracellular neurotransmitter amino acids concentration in the early stage of acute cerebral ischemia have been reported. In this the study, serum level of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) and L-Arginine in acute ischemic stroke patients was assessed. 60 patients with acute ischemic stroke and sixthy healthy volunteers as a control group were assessed. Serum GABA was measure...
